Unfortunately an unethical competing microphone reseller (many of you probably know who I am referring to) has chosen to go beyond his usual attempts to burn our company and reputation with Nuance, Distribution and generally making trouble for me by stooping to a new low, even by his own standards, by impersonating me on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001644225964. I assure you the previous link isn't me and although I have just joined Facebook, in an attempt to thwart his attack, I have essentially found out that no one at Facebook responds to phone calls or e-mail messages, which limits my options.

The reason for this post is to ask the membership if they are aware of any other avenues that I may have overlooked. I have already received 11 friend invitations from people who don't realize this is a fake ID and even had 1 of my customers ask me if I was 80 years old, drawing Social Security and gay. I'm basically just looking for suggestions on how to get this impersonation removed if anyone has an idea. I additionally apologize for this not being a speech recognition related question.

Hi Lunis - have you tried this?

Fake profiles (timelines) created to imitate real people (impostor accounts) are not allowed on Facebook.

If someone created an account pretending to be you:
  1. Go to the profile (timeline)
  2. Click the  and then select Report/Block
  3. Click This profile (timeline) is pretending to be someone or is fake
  4. Choose Pretending to be me from the type drop-down
  5. Click Continue to submit your report

Lunis,

Keith nailed it. Follow the procedure that he listed. I'm no longer a Facebook user, but identity fraud and protection is something they do take very seriously. Good luck!

Edit: If I were you, I'd go ahead and claim @LunisOrcutt and @KnowBrainer on Twitter. There's someone out there called @DNS_Expert. I assume he's affiliated with you, because his profile picture is the KnowBrainer company logo. While you're covering your social networking bases, the two larger remaining ones out there are LinkedIn and Google+. You might as well claim your identity there before someone beats you to it.

If you're not suffering social network fatigue by then, take a look at Quora. Again, you might want to claim your identity and, more importantly, state your interest in speech recognition. Quora will automatically e-mail you questions that users have posted about your fields of interest. Responding to speech-related questions might be a good chance for you to meet new customers.

As a fee for my marketing advice, I'll take a discount on the 3-in-1. Thanks :-)

I have followed up with the e-mails and additionally stumbled onto Keith’s recommendation but they lock you into 2 options: 1 is text, which I haven't been able to figure out why I never seem to receive and the other is a phone number option which always produces the following message (24 hours a day).

It's unfortunate that an unscrupulous competitor can get away with causing this much damage but I guess I'll just have to wait for an eventual e-mail answer. Hopefully I can mitigate some of the damage by becoming a Facebook member so that the membership can see there is more than 1 Lunis Orcutt

That is really awful.  Sorry you're going through this!  I happened to stumble across that Facebook page a couple days ago, and it didn't have so much crazy stuff on it then, but it did say something like "All other voice recognition forums besides Knowbrainer are ****" or something to that effect.  I thought to myself, "Wow this guy is a jerk".  Now that I know it isn't you, I'm thinking that whoever did this is a real jerk.

Over the past 24h, I've been obsessed with learning more about microphones, and in my searches of old forum stuff, I came across some conflict between you and a particular competing microphone reseller.  I hope he's not the one doing this.  That would be shocking to me, because I bought a couple items from him (I have also purchased from you), and he came across perfectly reasonable and nice on the telephone.

Internet defamation is a real problem.  I speak from personal experience .  If you can prove who did this, you might consider taking legal action.

At any rate, I hope this gets solved for you post haste.
