I have this error attempting to load Knowbrainer. I have loaded it often before without a problem. It does not involve commands. I cannot get the program to come up. I saw the thread from earlier this year involving Windows Vista and the reply that the error was extremely rare. Well I have it also.Windows 7 64 bit. I hope someone can help without downloading dribver fixes which want money. I have a good one already--Driver Genius Professional. I would prefer if possible to avoid reinstalling the program ------------------------- Dragon Professional 11; HP Pavilion Elite HPE, 2.80 G Intel Core; 8 GB Memory; ATI HDMI Audio; Windows 7 |

bbarrier, This type of error usually occurs from failure in Visual Basic code. Basically, according to Microsoft, the error means the following:
It is not a driver issue and programs like Driver Genius Professional can't resolve it anyway. The only resolution is to reinstall KnowBrainer. Apparently, somewhere along the line either your KnowBrainer program files got dropped kicked into the next county (corrupted), or a registry entry got bounced. Unfortunately, you don't have any other choice. Chuck Runquist Be careful what you ask for. What you get might not be what you expect, or want. - Aesop (620 BC - 700 BC) -------------------------

Thanks for the info. If I re-install (or go back to a previous version) will I lose the added vocabulary I have constructed in the past year? I am assuming I have a chance to keep that material during re-install. Is that correct?
I am sure this question has been asked before, but I cannot find it just now. ------------------------- Dragon Professional 11; HP Pavilion Elite HPE, 2.80 G Intel Core; 8 GB Memory; ATI HDMI Audio; Windows 7 |

bbarrier, The problem is not with Dragon, it's with KnowBrainer. You don't want to go in reinstall Dragon NaturallySpeaking, you need to reinstall KnowBrainer because that is where the error message is coming from. That is, you're getting the error when you attempt to load KnowBrainer, not when you attempt to load Dragon. It's generally a Visual Basic error and Dragon uses C++ not Visual Basic. KnowBrainer uses Visual Basic. However, when you have a problem with Dragon NaturallySpeaking, first try running a Repair. If that doesn't solve your DNS problems and you will have to uninstall and reinstall, you can preserve your user profiles by either exporting them to a safe location if you're going to run the Dragon 11 remove utility because this will delete everything including your user profiles. In addition, make sure that you are connected to the Internet and always perform a normal uninstall through the Windows Control Panel so that the uninstall routine goes out to the Dragon activation server and resets your activations. Otherwise you will lose one and you only have five. Nuance will always accommodate you on resetting your activations one time. The second time you call them for activation reset, they will tell you that you will have to buy an additional license. So, guard your activations carefully. Even so, you should export your user profile(s) on a regular basis anyway in case something happens to them and your backup doesn't resolve the issues. Also, just one other tip, never run a system restore with Dragon NaturallySpeaking install. This will corrupt the registry entries and you won't be able to access your user profile. This is another good reason why you should always periodically export your user profile using the Manage Users | Export and select a safe location away from your user files. You will find additional information when you look up “429” in the NaturallySpeaking Quick Tips (at the top of this page) which deals with Windows not registering the Scrrun.dll.
As far as your user files are concerned, you don't have to worry. KnowBrainer is strictly a command utility and has no contact with your user files. -------------------------
