Question From VoiceRecognition Forum

Quote:
I just got this lovely program yesterday, but I dont know how to make my own commands, to open programs. Like; 'Open Internet', 'Open MSN', 'Open Steam'. (And so on). Anyone got a step-by-step guide for this they can make, or maybe a link to a site with it? I am using DNS Pro 9.1

Our 1st recommendation would be to take advantage of the free upgrade to Ver. 9.5 via our DNS 9.5 Update Guide

As far as launching most programs are concerned… you do not have to create any commands. Most Windows registered programs can be opened by saying
Start or Open <application name>.  However, you can also add a shortcut to any folder, program or even document to your desktop and open it by saying Start or Open <application/folder or shortcut name>.  Example: If you drag a copy of Firefox onto your desktop you can launch it by saying Start or Open Firefox. However, you should only need to create a desktop shortcut to launch Firefox if you don't call it by its proper registry name which is “Mozilla Firefox”. In other words to launch Firefox without creating a desktop shortcut you would say Start Mozilla Firefox. You can find out the name of any registered proper application name by right-clicking on the icon and selecting Properties. The same is true for Microsoft Word. You cannot launch Microsoft Word by saying Start or Open Microsoft Word. Unless you make a desktop shortcut or Advanced-Scripting command, you will need to say Start Microsoft Office Word 2007.

Because you are using the professional version of NaturallySpeaking you have another option. You can create an Advanced-Scripting command such as the following:

There is a major price difference between DNS Preferred and DNS Pro and in order for Nuance to entice end users into purchasing DNS Pro, they had to disable several features in DNS Preferred. Otherwise, Nuance wouldn't be able to sell the Pro version. You can only edit or create simple boilerplate text commands in DNS Preferred because that is one of DNS Preferred's limitations but you can edit or create Advanced-Scripting commands, similar to the previous example, in KnowBrainer 2008 which is significantly less expensive than upgrading to DNS Pro and unlike NaturallySpeaking, we start you off with 11,000 or so sample commands.
