Hi

My approach with Dragon 9.5 is to dictate into a philips dictation machine and to feed texts of about 10 minutes length into Dragon, after conversion to wav format. This has worked for about ten years. Suddenly, Dragon now, at the end of transcribing the file, decided to exit without saving the transcribed text and without any act on my part. I have reinstalled the program, but kept my user files since I did not want to have to dictate alice in bloody wonderland yet again!
Has anyone else experienced this and does anyone have a suggestion on how to solve it?

Thanks for your help!

First, keep in mind that you're using a version of DNS that is several years behind the current version. It's hard to remember what the DNS Options are for this version, but I am virtually certain, if my memory serves me correctly, that there is an option in the Miscellaneous tab of the DNS Options dialog to "Automatically save user files". That hasn't changed between versions, except perhaps the phraseology. Do you have that option selected. My guess would be that if, for whatever reason, Dragon NaturallySpeaking is automatically shutting down, having this option selected should automatically save your user profile(s).

On the other hand, if and when this happens, check the recognition history "View recognition history" and see what Dragon is actually recognizing in terms of what you're saying. It may be inadvertently issuing a command without your realizing it (i.e., misrecognition). If you can determine what is happening by viewing the recognition history, you may be able to find out the cause and the solution.

Otherwise, since most of the users on the forum currently are not even using less than DNS 10.1, it's going to be difficult to identify the problem without a significant amount of detail from you. DNS 9.5, particularly Preferred, is just too far out of date for most of us to remember exactly what might be causing this particular problem. However, I suspect that you're getting an inadvertent "close command" executing. Sometimes this occurs because you use "close", which may, in fact, be actually closing Dragon vs. closing your application window. A little more detail would be helpful, particularly relative to what's occurring in the recognition history.

Thanks Chucker. I think the best approach is just to get tehlatest version. I had been very satisfied with the old one and never thought it might be time to upgrade. Thanks again!
