Synced Profile won't work on LT, just on PC (desktop)

I just got into DNS Premium this year and I'm running v 12.5. I use peer-to-peer syncing of the user profile between a PC (desktop) and LT (laptop). I use the exact same studio mic on both- USB Audio-Technica AT2020- I bring the mic in it's carrying case, wherever I go with the LT. DNS works flawlessly on the PC, just not on the LT, eventhough it's the exact same profile running within the same installs of DNS 12.5.

I've been back and forth with email support for about 3 weeks. I used phone support 4 days ago. Here is what I have done to try and resolve:

1. As advised, went thru their routine, to create a new "current" folder within the profile folder- have done this on both PC and LT

2. Per the phone support, have completely uninstalled DNS on the LT, using the DNS removal tool. Then, reinstalled and imported the profile back in.

It seemed to work for about 1-2 sessions. Now the constant error messages are back again. Every time I speak, an error dialog comes up telling me an "internal error" occured and restart Dragon. My PC and LT are about 2 years old. They are powerful HP systems using Win 7 Pro with i5 core processors and plenty of RAM and processor speed.

Wimba voice programs in Blackboard Learn

Hello – I'm teaching an online course using Blackboard Learn. Blackboard uses a program called Wimba for various voice applications: voice messaging, podcasting, etc. Yesterday I installed the podcaster, and today Dragon seems to be acting funny. I can't dictate anything into the dictation box (which is a major handicap). The commands in my e-mail program don't work the way they did yesterday. Some other commands, like maximizing and minimizing windows, are also erratic.

Earlier today, DNS just stopped working for a long enough period that I decided to turn it off and then turn it on again. Could this hangup have been a consequence of the Wimba program? Or is there any chance that exiting and restarting Dragon caused some of the other problems I've been having today?

I did restart the computer this morning, so that shouldn't be the issue.

Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with Blackboard and Wimba. (Blackboard is very widely used, so these issues may crop up again.) I'm not required to use the Wimba material, I could uninstall it, but I'd like to have better information first.

DNS won't shut down

Lately, when I tried to shut down DNS it goes through saving my profile as usual but never actually shuts down.

The microphone icon remains on my taskbar. If I right click on the icon I am presented with all of the normal options i.e., Mode, Tools, Profile, etc. The only option I do not have is to "exit Dragon." In addition, the following services are still running in my Task Manager: Dragon NaturallySpeaking for Windows (300,000 K), Dragon NaturallySpeaking Service (1600 K),Dragon NaturallySpeaking UI Automation Server (4500 K) andDragon NaturallySpeaking Phone Server (15,000 K). The only way to shut the program down is to end the processes in Task Manager.

I'm running Windows 7, 32 gig of RAM, Buddy DesktopMic 7G. No new programs have been installed and no changes have been made to my system.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Recovering from profile cache - is it possible

One of our users had network issues whilst saving his romaing proifle resulting in his profile being corrupted on the server, folder missing, incomplete ini file etc. We can recover it from backup but what is frustrating is that his cache is fine. If we remove the network cable, Dragon loads his cached profile and it has all his up to date vocab which is basically what you would work on if you were disconnected form the network. Does any one know of a way of forcing this to save back to the roaming server hence overwriting the duff version? When you reinstate the network cable and try saving, it looks like it just saves back to the cache and not the server. There was a username.lck file on the server version which I have tried renaming but with no luck.

Will go down the restore route but would love to know if what I tried to do was possible.

Trouble with Slow Responsiveness

I am having trouble with Dragon. I have 2 laptops and 2 headsets. Both headsets were purchased from Knowbrainer and both have soundcards. One is The Boom O with Pureaudio soundcard and the other is the Boom C with UBS Translator VXI.

It works with a long delay and puts the text in the wrong place, not where the cursor is set to. But mostly it is very slow and sometimes does not work at all. I moved files fro the external hard drive to the C drive and that helps a bit but I am still having a serious problem with all programs such as Word and Gmail. I do not have a network--it is just me and my laptop.

Should I uninstall and reinstall Dragon?

What is the Basics Edition?

My new employer gave me a box marked Version 12, Dragon Naturally Speaking, Basics Edition. I can't find ito n the Nuance website.

The blurb on it says, "use your voice to ignite fun and freedom on your pc!"

Anyone heard of this version? I don't want to spend a lot of time training it, if it's not as good as my old home edition.

Dragon backup

Dragon 12 now asks you which backup you would like to restore.

I can't find any information in Help so I'm asking here.

In Windows, you can manage multiple backups and multiple restore points, delete old ones and control how much disc space is allowed.

When you want to run system restore, you have many restore points to choose from.

I've "backed up" my profile several times today and only three backups are visible. The backups I see are the day I created the profile, the time I imported the vocabulary and one "Full backup" for today, even though I did it several times.

Does that mean each backup overwrites the previous backup?

DNS 11.5 intermittently transcribes dictation

Although my Audio Volume & Quality tests get passing grades my DNS no longer consistently transcribes my dictation into Word 2003, Outlook 2003 and online forms? It had been transcribing consistently during the two years I've had this program until a week or so ago, and I've not recently changed any hardware or software. Yet now it is hit or miss and even when it is hitting the transcription is painfully slow. However, this is not the first time this non-transcribing problem has occurred.

I've pasted in below a portion of my Dragon Log - Notepad in the hope that it will help someone diagnos a fix. My PC is running Windows XP Professional version 2 with Service Pack 3, Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.53 GHz - 2.52 GHz, 4 GB of RAM, and a Logitech USB desktop microphone.

Know Brainier's Recommended Link that I was diected to, NaturallySpeaking Quick Tips, includes the following: What to Do When You Lose Select-&-Say in Microsoft Word XP & 2003. Step 2 indicates how to enable add-in dgnword.dll but Addin (dgnword.dll) does not appear when I click on Help/... The only Addin which appears is c2c.dot. All the other disabled options are Documents: of which 8 end with .wbk and 1 is Documents:time.doc - I assumer this means my dgnword.dll addin is not disabled and there is another reason for my non-transcribing dictation in Word. I could not find a Quick Tip or other suggested resolution for my non-transcribing dictation in Outlook 2003 or in online forms such as Know Brainier's. Nor did the sequence in which I open DNS and the Word/Outlook programs make any difference when the transcription was occuring or not occurring.

Windows 8 Tablet won't install 11.5 for 12.0 upgrade disc

Hey Guys- I searched around and haven't seen another thread on this. I received a new hp elitepad 900 for work. It runs windows 8. I have a 12 pro upgrade disc, but it won't let me install b/c it can't find an eligible product to upgrade. Reason being is that I had 11.5 pro before, but I cannot seem to install it on the tablet. It keeps telling me that i can't install 11.5 b/c I need to downgrade from .NET 4 to 3.5. Obviously I can't do that. I really don't want to have to get a separate license for 12. Any ideas?

DNS11 and Procat Winner VR

I recently switched from Via Voice to Dragon for use with Procat Winner VR. In Via Voice I could place my cursor anywhere and the room recording would match up and start right there where the cursor is. Since switching to DNS11 the room recorder and cursor sync is way off. I DID find a preference for starting the audio a set number of seconds before the cursor, but whether I chose 0 or 10, nothing changed. Anybody know why this is or how it can be fixed? Thank you!

Problems in DNS after recent Windows 7 updates?

I used to be able to dictate directly into Microsoft Outlook 2003 emails without any issue whatsoever using DNS 12 and Knowbrainer 2012. Three or four days ago I got a notice that some Windows updates were required. After the update, when I try to dictate into an Outlook email DNS will do about half a sentence before freezing. It takes about five minutes for DNS to unfreeze at which point it tells me there's been a problem and I should try closing and reopening DNS. If I take DNS's advice the cycle starts all over again. In other words, I can reproduce this problem.

Is this just a coincidence? Is it me? Or did Microsoft do something in its latest round of updates to break DNS. If it did, is there a way to fix this?

I h before I am able totype in the body of the letter.ave Dragon naturally speaking home version 12. Every morning when I open Dragon and My mail program open (Windows live mail) it will let me type in an address and the subject field but it will not let me type in the body of the letter. I find that I must restart my computer several timesbefore I can do this. Is this a common problem? Is anyone else having this problem? Is there something I can do? Should I be leaving Dragon open overnight or closed?

Hi folks,

I'm seeking a bit of advice.

Since upgrading to 11.5 pro, my system has not been recording.DRA files, and, much more importantly, is capitalising any text I insert midsentence, for example when correcting some of what it has misunderstood!

The latter problem is particularly appalling because I just started a bachelors degree, have to write a lot of casenotes, and my voice isn't up to positioning the cursor midsentence to correct/edit/add to everything (I also frequently don't seem to have time or patience either), so when I position the cursor thus using the mouse, Dragon thinks it is beginning a completely new sentence, and capitalises the first word of the phrase.

I wonder if it has something to do with the system not recording.DRA files-the only clue I have in the matter.

Any advice gratefully received.

Microsoft Outlook is not properly installed - Office 2010

I have Dragon NaturallySpeaking 12.0 installed on Microsoft Surface Pro with Windows 8 Pro. I uninstalled the trial verson of Office 365 and installed Office 2010 Professional Plus. Outlook 2010 works well. When I run "Vocabulary", "Learn from sent e-mails", it always says "Microsoft Outlook is not properly installed". I called the technical support and was suggested to "repair" the DNS. I did it but it didn't help. I have tried to reinstall DNS, reinstall MS Office 2010 but the issue still exists. I have also installed the DNS service pack 1 and the current version is12.5.

Has everyone run into the same issue? Any suggestions?

Import Export Dragon 12.5 Pro

I've been exporting and importing profiles for years. I often do it just to snag screenshots so I do it more often than the average user. In the past, when I "imported" a profile, all my custom vocabulary words appeared.
I've tried importing my profile several times today. I get the message export successful and import successful. However, when I open my vocabulary, none of my custom words appear. Has something changed? Am I missing something?

Hi – I'm posting this to two forums, NaturallySpeaking Speech Recognition and Computer Issues/Recommendations. I'm teaching an online course, and I can make podcasts if I install a plug-in called Java Runtime Environment. Does anyone know if this will interfere with Dragon?

I'm cautious, because I know that some Adobe plug-ins interfere, and the last I heard, Java wasn't fully compatible with Dragon, and some other plug-ins have caused trouble. I use Dragon for reasons of physical limitation and I really can't afford any problems right now!

I have used DMPE 11 since it came out.

I can only find 1 Dragon MPE disk Upgrade Build 11.00.300.312. Do I need more disks ?

Will I have activation problems/

Auto Transcription Agent and Sound Card

For example: If a user adds a word to his lexicon, then a central administrator may decide that this is a good idea and implement these changes to all users.
Is there a software package that allows this?

User profile problem

When DNS

12.5 starts I have to select a user profile. My computer is listing

5 profiles. I only need one because I'm the only user. I would like to delete the others because the computer won't finish booting until a profile is selected. When I try to delete the extra profiles I get an error saying that I'm not allowed to change profiles possibly because I do not have the proper privileges. I have administrative privileges so I can't understand why I am not allowed to delete these profiles. Please help. Thanks in advance.

In Dragon 12, is there a way to automatically save the text you have spoken into the pop-up dictation box? For all the things that I dictate during the day to various programs like Internet forms and emails, I would like each of the instances of the dictation box contents to be appended to a text file that I can later access. This is for having a keepsake, but also the way to have documents for Dragon to learn speech patterns from in the future if I do a fresh install.

Dragon bar has changed appearance

I was editing a Word document tonight and suddenly my Dragon NaturallySpeaking (DNS 11.5) Started to freak out!

Always before, the Dragon bar had a blue band across the top with the little minus sign in a box next to the big red X.

Now, all of this is gone. All I have is the plane DragonBar. There is no blue band across the top and no red X or minus sign.

The strange thing was, when I was dictating, I had put the microphone to sleep (that is a tough one to say) and when I clicked on the icon to reactivated suddenly everything got very strange. The DragonBar just disappeared and Dragon turned itself off.

I restarted the Dragon NaturallySpeaking and when I did, the DragonBar had taken on this new appearance and Dragon was trying to post something on twitter – which is curious because I do not have a twitter account that I know of.

I restarted my computer and this did no good I also shut down my computer and restarted it with the same non-results.

Right now, Dragon seems to be working well using this website but there is no green check and if I'm not mistaken it was there before. When I go to a Word document, the green check does appear.

I am not a heavy duty DNS user and as long as the thing types well I am pretty much happy. The thing I am concerned with is does this change forbode more dramatic problems later on?

Anybody got anything on this?

I can still shut down Dragon by right clicking at the bottom and selecting exit Dragon, but I always used to click that big red X on the Dragon bar and now it's not there.

Need Dragon pro help for install/configure

My hands are in too bad a shape to go thru the back and forth communication to explain and work thru my install problems (likely all hardware) with Dragon Premium, so I'm willing to bite the bullet and hire someone who can get me past the initial roadblocks. Is there a list of consultants who would work with an individual for an affordable rate in the Philly area? I have severe hand/arm tendinitus and desparately need to get as much of voice recognition working as possible, although my dictation needs are pretty elementary (and not Dragon's strong points as i understand: i.e Facebook).

Basics: Dell XPS Studio desktop with mic that came with Dragon Premium. Unsure of physical connections and initial sound test indicate Dragon barely hears me. It also fails on the second audio test. Had some experience with Dragon Pro years ago, with many problems with accurate recognition, but I'm familiar with concepts/many commands. Need to get the hardware set up properly before I go any further. Also need different mic because all the over-the-head styles cause head pain.

Really would appreciate help.

DNS 12.5 has been working well on my windows8 pro computer since the upgrade.

Microsoft office 13 also responding well.

However, during the last few days DNS has been "misbehaving" and i fet the following eror meassage.

"A third party aplication is interferring with DNS'

I have to close and restart DNS.

It works well for a while and then again the eratic behaviour and nessage as above.

"Wake up" command has suddenly stopped working. I used to be able to say "Listen to me" and the microphone would wake up after I said "go to sleep" with version 10 with no problems. But now with version 12/12.5 I have to revert back to "wake up", but now that does not even work. I want to try training that command, but I cannot see how to train commands or even words in the Command Browser. Can somebody tell me how?

Upgrading to new versions loses work in all DNS editions or only Home?

When I upgraded from Home 11 to version 12 I lost everything I had trained and added. I thought perhaps I had done something wrong, but someone on the Nuance forum told me that this is a big drawback to the Home edition, so when they come out with the next new version I will lose all my work again.

He recommended that I upgrade to Premium, which he says doesn't have that drawback. I would like to verify that if I buy premium 12 I won't lose my work when it is upgraded to new full number versions - is he right about that? (I never rely on input from just one person, especially in forums ).

I find that I can get Premium 12 on Amazon for about $95. Does anyone know where I can get a price better than $95, or is that the best I'm likely to do?

long time to save profile

Every once in a while I try to save my profile when I have made numerous changes to the vocabulary, etc. After I select Profile/Save User Profile it takes quite a bit of time (15-20 seconds) the first time it is run. Subsequent saves work immediately. Is this normal?

I'm aware of the Mac transitioning discussion running here (http://www.knowbrainer.com/forums/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=7&threadid=14694&enterthread=y), but after wasting a few of my and my clients hours with DragonDictate (which is good when it works, but is buggy like you wouldn't believe), I am looking for a better way to integrate Dragon for Windows running in a virtual machine with a Mac host.

So: here's the deal

Short version:

I'm looking a for a way to transfer the text from a Windows program to the Mac host with a voice command. Or a hotkey.

Long version:

I'm looking for a solution to transfer text created with Dragon Medical - or any other Dragon version for that matter - in a Parallels virtual machine to a Mac-based EMR.

There are a few possibilities I have explored:

Copy and paste text from a Windows virtual machine window to a Mac host window.

I can get Dragon to copy text via Dictation Box or any other voice command, but I can't get it to switch to Mac and paste it there. The text is present on the Mac clipboard, but But apparently keyboard presses done with Advanced Scripting (using the Windows-tab-hotkey with keyboard events) do not switch to Mac.

Using the dictation box in Coherence Mode.

I wasn't able to. Again, the text is present in the Mac's clipboard, but it doesn't paste the dictation box's contents into the desired application.

Looking for a macro that would monitor the clipboard for change and paste the clipboard's contents automatically to the EMR.

I haven't found anything yet, but I keep looking.

Alternatively, does VMWare Fusion offer a better integration of Dragon NaturallySpeaking with Mac?

If you have any experience doing something like this, I'd appreciate your input.

I have Dragon home version 12. At this point is working pretty well and I find it increasingly invaluable! I am disabledand unable to type, and Dragon is like a miracle to me!

There are two things that happened repeatedly, however, and I hope that you can give me some insight.

Firstly, and it is difficult for me not to personify Dragon NaturallySpeaking, but in the morning it seems to take time to "wake up" and get acclimated. It usually will not let me right in the body of email and often recognition is poor. I usually have to restart my computer once or twice before proceeding. Am I right in figuring that it has to "limber up" in the morning?

The other thing that seems to be happening often is that the cursor will "skip around" and I often and up writing in a different paragraph then I am intending and don't always catch the mistake. Why is this happening? Is anyone else having a similar problem. I am very careful to avoid touching my mouse, so I don't think that could be the problem.

You have been very very helpful in the past and I am very impressed with the knowbrainer site, I'm hoping that you can give me some more "words of wisdom".

Dictating into Outlook shows up in Word

I have a person using Dragon 11.5 Pro on Windows 7, dictating into Outlook 2010 and even though we are certain that Outlook is in focus, the dictated text appearing in the most recently opened Word 2010 document she has open.

Closing and reopening Outlook fixes it. But it also happened yesterday towards the end of the day.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

DNS 11.5 freezing problem with Windows Vista

I just started using Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 11.5 in April. My problem is that the application freezes up at least once a day and I have to do a reboot to get to work again. So far I've found no consistency in why it should lock up.

I'm running Windows Vista SP2 with 4 GB of RAM. We've put in for a replacement PC that will be running Windows 7 and starting out with 4 GB of RAM. Other forums have suggested using as much as 16 GB of RAM but I think that must be overkill. Perhaps 8 GB is sufficient?

I'm wondering if other users have experienced the same problem with Windows Vista and if upgrading to Windows 7 with more RAM has solved the issue. Any hints, thoughts, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I believe the application has great potential but right now I'm finding it very frustrating.

Reistall v 12.5 -- can't recognize old version disks

After a spectacular seize-up that wiped my profile, I decided to reinstall v12.5. I uninstalled and ran the cleanup program. Running the install disk, after taking the serial number, a dialog asked to see a "qualyfing" version, by inserting an old disk. I have disks for v11.5 Premium, 11.0 Premium, and 10.0 Preferred, and i tried them all. in each instance, i inserted the disk and hit enter, but the dialog simply reappeared with no other message. Typing specific information, sych as "setup.exe", with and without long location identifiers, also didn't work.

How can I get beyond this?

DNS 11 + SDL Trados 11

I'm a translator and I'm using DNS with SDL Trados 11 SP2. Whenever I go from one segment (sentence) to the next, DNS does not capitalize the sentence. How could I set up DNS so it automatically puts a capital letter at the beginning of every sentence (segment)?

Some spoken forms not working in v12/12.5

Since upgrading to version 12 and then 12.5 (Pro), I have had a few spoken forms relating, in particular, to units of measure that no longer work properly. They all worked perfectly well in versions 11/11.5. On the other hand, there are other spoken forms which do work as well as they used to.

Generally, the spoken form appears. I correct it, and for the next instance of the same "error", the correct form may or may not come up as a correction option. Interestingly (and a frustratingly) if I dictate the the words into the Vocabulary Editor, it will often come up in the form I want! In version 11/11.5, I would define something train it, and it would work.

I have tried the following in various combinations and permutations:

enabling and disabling units of measure in the formatting options
defining them as alternate forms, both with the option to use before/after numbers checked and unchecked
defining both a spoken form an alternate form at the same time
training and retraining them, especially after correction
creating a new profile (done this a few times to troubleshoot a host of other problems with v12/12.5 - please don't suggest this, I will not do it again)
complete uninstall using a tool from the Nuance support, and reinstall

I have my dictation and correction workflow fairly well worked out, but these are words that I use fairly often, and it has become time-consuming to have to correct them every time.

Some of the problematic words are (with "units of measure" disabled in the formatting options):

mM - millimoles per litre
mg/mmol - milligrams per millimole
½ - a half
¼ - a quarter
/L - per litre
g/day - grams per day

Other words which have continued to work properly:

µM - micromoles per litre
pM - picomoles per litre
nM - nanomoles per litre
mU/L - milliunits per litre

I really don't want to try redefining the problematic words with spoken forms that I don't use in my everyday language (such as millimolars for mM); when I am dictating I really need to concentrate on my message not how I am saying it.

Greetings, I am currently supporting a woman who is quadraplegic and has been using DNS for almost 12 years. She recently upgraded to Windows 7 and DNS version 11.5 Premium. Computer has plenty of processing speed and memory.

Product was working well until someone upgraded - Norton. Since then, mouse grid stopped functioning. Today I uninstalled and reinstalled the Dragon. Now, we can see the mouse grid momentarily but then it immediately disappears.

I have searched for answers but cannot figure out what is going on. Norton is the only thing that has changed on the her system. . . that we know about.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
