need limited voice commands for Windows 8 tablet

I'm not sure where to post this because this question is not about Dragon itself, but is about other voice recognition applications. I use Dragon on my primary desktop PC which is great, but it cannot run on tablet computers. Is there a less resource hungry program that has high accuracy for basic voice commands, maybe no more than 30 of 40 unique commands, that would run on a Windows tablet? Or could I just use Best Match III with a small vocabulary?

DNS inserts extra words

DNS frequently and randomly inserts "will" into my documents. Also, it often inserts it at a place different than where my cursor is. This is driving me crazy! I have tried the ideas on this forum will such as lowering the volume on my microphone setting.

I have had DNS read it back to me, and in fact it says "will", meaning that it hears the word. I'm sure I have not said "will". I worked in a fairly quiet environment.will

I have DNS 12.5, a no-brainer microphone with Andreas soundcard, a desktop with an I -5 processor,'s and 6 gigs of RAM. I do have other programs open: Excel, QuickBooks, 2 or 3 chrome webpages.

Please help!

Using "Full stop" as a command

I have been using speech recognition with Windows 7 for a while and this problem has only just appeared. It won't now recognise the British English command 'Full stop' for ending a sentence; it seems it only recognises the American command, i.e. 'Period', and when I say 'Full stop' it just writes the words themselves. It was fine with this as a command before...

How can I get it to recognise 'Full stop' as a command again? (We have just switched to Office 2010 - I don't know if this is relevant)

4 giga bite of ram using parallels on macbook air

Hi,

I am trying to put parallels (a program that allows me to switch to windows) on a macbook air. (version 10.8.3 Processor 1.7 GHx Intel core iS with 4 GB ram). I will install Windows 8 (64 or 32 bite???) on an external HD. Do I have enough ram to do this?

I think I should be doing this on my Imac. Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Software OS X 10.8.3 (12D78)

But I have to travel and need the software on the air then. I am wondering if I can use dragon with the Macbook air computer.

Is there a command that has caused black out sections of long document

I have a 200 page document to which I was adding information last night and suddenly discovered that throughout document chunks (10-15 lines) were blacked out (at ?regular intervals).

The typescript I can reverse (on the black background) from black to white by highlighting but I cannot find any means of changing background or correcting the problem throughout the document. Some of the typescript is on white background and some on black at the start and finish of the blacking out. I spent ages "undoing" work but eventually gave up as it seemed impossible to correct.

(The programme also has a habit of highlighting whole chunks and if one is not careful a quick key press could delete huge chunks without one necessarily being aware that it had done so!)

Can anyone tell me how to correct this please without having to copy and paste into new document?!

WSR + AutoHotkey = weirdness

Anyone use WSR and AutoHotkey on the same machine? I am running Win 8 w/ WSR & AutoHotkey_L version 1.1.09.03 (latest version I believe).

I have a number of hotkeys set up using the Windows key as a modifier (e.g., Win+A, Win+Z, Win+X). Using these keys in AHK results in WSR turning on & off erratically, and also stops the hotkey from working after the first press. WSR should only be responding to Ctrl+Win, but it picks up on these particular key combinations from AHK.

It doesn't matter what the function is mapped to. I actually set one up to test:

#z::Send #z

This works once, but thereafter just inserts "z"s into the focused application, and toggles WSR temporarily or permanently, depending upon how long the Windows key is held.

It's very strange. If I close WSR, my AHK hotkeys resume normal function. Anyone have a similar experience?

Windows 7 64-bit Speech Recognition

OK--Hello All! I'm having a problem with my Speech Recognition, and from the looks of things, it's the same problem many people are having and been having for years----I've been looking everywhere for a solution....that's how I know it's been years....from all the posts I've read from many, many sites I have visited! On the support site @ microsoft, the solution to ......."speech recognition cannot start because the language.....blah, blah, blah", is basically 3 things----Advanced options, change the lang. location and reboot, then enter the one you need. Didn't work. 2) go into where you change date and time, and change locale there. Also, didn't work. 3) Do a major re-install fix thing that I dare not try, because I'm not that savvy on the computer, and I will undoubtably screw things up! So, what I'm getting from all of this is.....NOBODY knows how to fix this problem, it's crazy!The program worked for a while (many people said the same) and now it doesn't!! It is not the microphone on headset, I took all the training and then some, and it worked like a champ----it just won't open. I have tried every 'fix-it' solution I have come across! I have another laptop with Win 7 Ultimate---5 min ago I hooked up the same headset and went through the steps for SR, training went fine and you know what? It opened and worked! It works now---thing is---I need it to work on this damn Dell I have. What about this---Is there anyway to uninstall it and then re-install it? Would that help? Anybody out there have ANY answers to this age old problem, or has microsoft given up on it's customers? I have no idea what 'kind' of Speech Recognition I have except that it came installed on my laptop-----not alot of info on it. I really want this to work, I downloaded a SR software, don't really like it and they want me to pay for it.....booooo! All these smart guys and gals at microsoft and nobody knows how to fix this? Disappointed! Very disappointed! I'm not trying to be ugly, but for 6 mos and no results!!!! C'mon people!!! OK---I'm done venting, now will somebody fix this for me so I'll shut the heck up! windows 8 speech recognition

I am using windows eight and also office 2013 . I have dragon dictate 12 premium installed. Because office 2013 seems to be incompatible with dragon dictate I decided to try Microsoft speech recognition.

I have spent a fair amount of time training to include certain words that I use more commonly, and I must say I'm very pleased by the result. I will probably continue using Microsoft speech recognition until such time as the patch for Dragon dictate 12 becomes available.

I am interested in others' experiences and perhaps their recommendations. To be honest, I'm surprised at how well it is working.

I'm looking forward to hearing from others.

Usually I don't post about minor updates on software, but I'll do it since this is a major version change.

I'm the developer of Voice Finger and would like to tell I just release version 2.6. Besides its new features it now works also in Windows 8, beyond 7 and Vista.

For those who never heard of it, Voice Finger is a software made originally for my RSI that make it possible to click anywhere on the screen often with one command, through an expandable 36 x 36 mouse grid.

It is a lot faster than Windows default mouse grid. It also has a lot of keyboard commands, from the simplest ones to the most exoterical you'd think of.

It is a cheap add-on to WSR and I hope it will help some people, as some here in the forum already know and master it.

Jumping cursor

I am becoming increasingly frustrated with the cursor jumping back a few spaces and starting again after I pause during dictation. If I'm watching close enough I will see it but quite frequently I find at the end of the paragraph the last two or three letters of a word at times 2-3, that appear to have occurred somewhere in the paragraph above. Any ideas? This occurs in both Word and in my EHR that is cloud-based in IE 9. This problem occurs in desktop 64 bit Win 7 8gRam and to a lesser extent, on an AIO touch- 32bit win 7 4gRam.

Age old unsolved problem of WSR not able to work on Win7-64.

(1) In trying to set up an input device, WSR claims it can not find an input device, although the Sound Record can. Why doesn't just ask Sound Recorder?

(2) In trying to use WSR, it claims that the default speech engineer does not support this action (using WSR). So what good is it?

I bought this, and its shit.

The main problem is that you cannot add lots of words to the vocab like you can with DNS. There has been talk of adding words like in DNS(like in bulk) but WTF.

Its a rip off...end of story. Persons on this forum have endorsed it, but come on...its not just a try hard its not even there.

WSR is rubbish....regardless of wot anyone says.

I had dragon set up but having alot of problems with the microphone then i realized i had Microsoft speech recognition and thought this is awesome but i am having so much trouble opening programs and it not understanding what I'm saying then it ends up going to a whole different site then i read about this macros and i have the downloaded a cheat sheet on what to say and i started a profile but now it wont do anything but say what did you say. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to fix this problem.

I have just spent several days training dragon medical professional 11 and as a laugh I decided to try out on my new laptop the windows speech recognition software. I used to use it with my old computer using vista, and found it quite useless. This seems to have changed remarkably in windows seven version. I have a 64 bit processor with 4 GB of RAM and an I7 processor. The initial results with the medical professional 11 without any training was actually quite poor. After all the training it did seem to improve dramatically. It was pretty good at the medical recognition which is what I would expect. But on reading a newspaper it got numerous common words completely wrong.

During my quick test of windows speech recognition I was amazingly surprised, but without any training at all he had managed to recognise practically everything I said. I read an extract from the newspaper and it recognized David Cameron instantly.

Has the window speech recognition software been significantly improved since windows vista .

Will I be wasting my money upgrading from medical professional 9, to medical professional 11 if windows 7speech recognition software can do the job for me if I train a medical dictionary. Can I import the dictionary from dragon medical 9. Or can I import a word list.

'Alternates Panel' doesn't work when correcting word

Hi,

I am using WSR in Vista, I have Vocola 3 installed, along with VoiceFinger. I have disabled 'dictate everwhere' in WSR.

When I attempt to correct a word or phrase, the alternates panel appears with all the potentially 'correct' alternatives. However, upon when speaking the number of the correct phrase, the panel instantly closes, and instead of replacing the old text with the corrected text of the corresponding number spoken, it actually interprets the number as text that needs to be written and replaces the text to be corrected with the text 'one', 'two', 'three' or whatever number was spoken.

Any ideas as to how I can make the correction process work? As it stands, it is going to severely limit my ability to use the program. Note: It will let me click on the number of the correct answer, but not speak it, however I want to be hands free!

WSR not working

I want to use WSR but it has not been working lately. Whenever I say a command like "start menu" the words "start menu" will pop up in the little box within the speech icon but the actual start menu wont pop up. Also, saying stop/start listening doesn't work.

I created a custom script so when I call for my computer it will answer back and that's not working either.

The code is as follows.

My question has been asked before and there doesn't seem to be a definite answer on it.

Will the windows toolkit go through doucuments and pick out unknown words and add them to the custom Vocabulary(in large amounts)??. Easily like DNS does it??. I have seen a post where the user of the toolkit has to open an individual window for each word, although that was in 2010.

Im aware of context and language models and improving rec from running thru documents.I just would like to know if the toolkit does add words from documents or add word lists the way DNS does. Regardless of context etc adding word lists for rec certainly does work and i really need this feature if I am to go anywhere with WSR.

Can't open favorites using one command anymore

I'd just upgraded from Vista 32/64-bit to Windows 7 ultimate and I'm having a fit using Windows speech recognition. No longer can I say “open Amazon” which is my favorites in a folder called shopping. It worked fine with the vista 32/64 bit WSR. Now I have select favorites and then move down to the desired folder, open it and then select the location for Amazon. Five individual steps instead of being able to say one command. Has anybody experienced this problem?

Does anyone know where the WSR user files are located??

Show numbers command doesn't work after resetting Internet Explorer settings

I did a search and didn't find an answer to this problem. So here goes, I was working on a unrelated problem and supposedly resetting the Internet explorer settings under the tools, Internet options, advanced tab, would fix the problem. Not only did it not work but it messed up WSR's ability to show numbers within the pages of Internet Explorer or any Microsoft Office program. Since I'm a quadriplegic I rely heavily on voice recognition programs. I use both DNS and WSR alternately because each has their strengths and their weaknesses. Does anybody know by any chance, how to solve this problem? Since it's going to be very difficult to live without that feature working correctly, I am going to have to reset my laptop back to original factory settings to see if that works. So I'm posting here with hopes that somebody can save me from having to do that which would require me reloading all of my programs again. Thanks in advance for any help I can get.

PS I did try a system restore and it didn't resolve the problem

Hello all,
I tired this out and to my dismay there is no facility to add custom vocabs in any great degree. ie it has to be done one at a time. What kind of product is that??. It means that Nuance will continue to rule supreme.WSR is relatively useless for persons like me without this feature. I know there are 3rd party add ons who are in bed with MSoft but the price for these is quite frankly a rip off. How did MS miss such an obvious feature. There is a way possibly with SIAP (or something like that) but its complicated compared to DNS
Does anyone know if Microsoft plans to change this in windows 8??????

WSR Won't Start

WSR in Win7-64 will not start, the attached message box comes up claiming a change in language was made.

No such change was made, nor have I found a way to undo a change that was never made.

This appeared all of a sudden one day, after WSR had been working for months.

Not that I used WSR much, could live without it, but trying it out occasionally.

Custom mousegrid

Is there any program/software where you can design your own mousegrid or something like it? Because I'm playing a browser game called Imperion and I'm getting tired of saying show numbers- the number and then ok, and I have to say refresh speech commands a lot, I just want to say mousegrid and the number and maybe I don't have to say click, just say the number. Or maybe someone can make a utility or a script or a add-on. Here's how it should work:

Program features:

Add squares with numbers and letters to grid
Remove squares from grid
Customize layout, size of squares on grid
Ability to just say the number of the square on grid to be the click
Remembers size of window or browser window
Can save it
Make own command. Ex- mousegrid custom, browsergrid...etc.

I know it's asking a lot but can someone make something like what I've been talking about? To make a add-on for WSR. Thank you. Greg

This is the first time ever I have lost all of my Windows speech macros

This has never ever happened to me on my machine before.

None of my WSRMacros work anymore on my machine.

At first, I thought it was one I accidentally deleted. I checked my speech macros folder and it was still there. I then double-checked that my speech macros were on and that was fine. I rebooted the computer several times but the problem still persisted.

Now I have no idea what has happened or how this has happened. I am disabled and cannot use my hands so I rely utterly on these macros working for me.Can anybody possibly think what may have happened or what I have to do to rectify the problem ASAP please?

Can the Windows Dictation Resource Kit be used to create a virtual "Command Mode"?

I want to create a virtual "Command Mode" within WSR to provide improved recognition for specific commands. Can this be done by creating a custom language model via the Windows Dictation Resource Kit?

It has been my experience with WSR that it works good for some people, and not so good for others. Unlike DNS, there are not very many parameters to adjust to improve performance for persons having trouble. One definite weakness of WSR is its lack of alternate recognition modes. Would creating a custom language model allow a user to reduce the active vocabulary to a limited number of commands for performing specific tasks? Or am I misunderstanding how these language models are implemented?

Saving the User Files, and downloading DNS 11

You may remember that my user files disappeared halfway through December. We found another user file tucked away on the computer, and I followed the instructions to install Dragon 11 that had been sent to me by knowbrainer, although this wasn't successful and in the end I spoke to the operator at Nuance (very helpful). -- I realise now.of course that it was an upgrade from 10 to 11, not the whole programme -- We ended up reinstalling the original Dragon 10 program and for a everything seemed to be working. But it has gone back to its old ways and now it won't save any changes. It is giving the same message. I suspect there's a corrupted file in there. We deleted the tb file last time, which did work but now the problem is back. What should I do? I am very disabled and can't use my hand at all. Is it possible to have a new copy? I need one for me and one for the support group of of decrepit wheelchair users I am proud to call my mates... I also regularly get the message that ' the audio input devices not responding'. I run the audio setup wizard every time I turn on the computer. Pretty soon I will know it off by heart! I would like to get rid of this issue once and for all. I seem to spend at least an hour every day just getting the Dragon setup so I can use it. I am beginning to forget what life was like before... As a long-term disabled user of Dragon, I believe that Lunis Orcutt will supply a free copy of Dragon NaturallySpeaking. Would it be possible to supply two new copies of DNS 11, one for me and one for the Backwell Access Group (this is our local disabled support group)? We would all be mightily grateful.... Microphone won't stay on in WSR

Dragon is working so slowly I thought I'd try WSR in Microsoft Outlook. I exited Outlook, DNR and KB, opened WSR, and tried to do the training. But the microphone won't stay on--it turns itself off in a few seconds whenever I click it on. I checked the microphone in the Control Panel, and the computer recognizes it and says it's working correctly. But I can't dictate because the mike always is off.

I'd appreciate your help.

Suppose I'm using WSR on Windows 7, and that I don't want to use my hands
(at all).

(1) Is it possible to browse the web without too much awkwardness?
I don't need the ability to fill in forms, I just need to be sure that
I can follow links, bookmark pages, and change the browser's options.

(2) Is it possible to narrow or widen a window to the desired size?

From the research that I've done, the answer to (1) seems to be yes.

For (2), I imagine it could be done by means of a WSR macro, to use the
necessary keyboard shortcuts to resize a window.  For example, I expect
that generating these keystrokes would slightly widen a window:

  <alt>+<space>
  s
  <Right arrow>
  <Enter>

Note that I'm not asking anyone to write such a macro for me; I simply
want to know if such a macro could be written, or whether there is any
other way to achieve the same effect.

These may seem like peculiar or ignorant questions.  The explanation is
that I am a Linux user and RSI sufferer, and I am thinking of buying a
Windows machine so I can use speech recognition for some of the things
that I do.  Before I spend any money, I need to know, at a minimum,
that the above two questions can be answered in the affirmative.

WSR very sluggish and slow

This question has puzzled me from the very first time I ever tried WSR. When I first started using it, and became quite proficient in it, I found it quite fast, especially on the commands side.

I know between every command you give, before you can say the next one, you have to wait for the revolving circle in the voice meter bar to disappear. Every now and then though, when I would first boot up, I would notice that the revolving circle was starting to take longer and longer to disappear before you could issue the next command, so making WSR sluggish and slow.

Then I would login at another time and computer updates had been added and then WSR seemed to be okay again and the revolving circle disappeared quite quickly in between each command. Then I would login on another day and the circle was back again taking its time. It seems at the moment though, on the machine I am using, this circle takes ages to disappear and it has been like this for months now!

Just yesterday, this was the heartbreaking thing. I went on my daughters laptop just to have a little dabble and try something out. I used WSR on this machine and it was amazingly fast and the revolving circle was disappearing almost immediately after every command I gave. That's how it used to be on my own machine.

Can anybody give me a solution to this or give an indication of what might be causing it to be so sluggish and slow?

Command/Shortcut forr Starting WSR?

Most applets and accessories in Windows can be started directly by entering the applet or program name (and extension) from the Start Menu, or from a shortcut on the desktop if you know the name and extension. I don't want WSR to start automatically on start-up, but I would like to be able to start it quickly when I want it.

Is there such a shortcut for Windows Speech Recognition, and what is it?

Word won't print or recognize dictated word

I am having trouble dictating in Microsoft Word that appears to be similar to the problems I had in Outlook. Occasionally Outlook refuses receive dictation, or it erroneously records corrections. We decided the answer to that problem was to exit and reenter the program.

My problem with Word is similar, and exiting the file, the program, or even restarting the computer doesn't help. I am having particular difficulties dictating the following phrase (which I have entered into Vocabulary and trained many times): Number 6. Word will not type it. Instead I get a box that says "select asterisk asterisk zero six asterisk asterisk." That box never gets typed either, and the only way to have Number 6 appear onscreen is either to type it manually, or if I'm lucky, to a dictate dd words after Number 6, which it will then type [please note, I didn't dictate "dd" just then--I changed "add" to "dictate," and the computer typed "dictate dd." It is now refusing to recognize all dictation.]

Please help! I'm writing a chapter about Number 6, and if dictating the phrase is going to shut down DNS, I'm dead.

I'm having an issue with WSR working over Remote Desktop. WSR works fine for native commands opening and closing MS Application just as Work and Notepad and I can dictate into those applications all over RDP. However, the rub comes when I want to dictate in my medical application, WSR simply is unable to recognize virtually anything I say.
This phenomenon does not occur when I run the same medical application on my Hard drive and NOT over RDP. In other words, RDP is filtering out my ability to dictate directly into my EMR. ( WSR will also not allow me to paste from notepad into my EMR when over RDP).

Any thoughts or fixes?

transferring custom vocabulary from vista to windows 7 ?

1) if I CAN import it, and what I can import (spell it training?)

Just being nosy really. Does Rob Chambers still work for Microsoft? It's just I have not seen a post from him in here for a long long time now.

It seems like the Dragon boys have taken over giving advice in here now for WSR. Nothing wrong with that, I just wondered what happened to Rob and Brad T?

as of the last 2 weeks i have been unable to use dns for word processing including this forum. it works in command mode and word pad however. what settings do i need to correct?

Can I reduce the sensitivity that turns on my microphone in windows speech recognition?

I only want my microphone to perform speech recognition when I actually say "wake up" or "start listening." As it is, it turns on almost any time I begin speaking, which leads to a whole series of problems and challenges.

Is there any way to reduce the sensitivity of when it turns on? I would prefer to have it be difficult to get it it turn on than to have it turn on when I don't want it turned on.

Is there a keyboard command to go to sleep or wake up the microphone?

WSR Scripting Environment in Windows 7

All,

I'd like to try my hand (er, voice) at Windows Speech Recognition in my home environment (Windows 7 64-bit, using a KnowBrainer mic and an Andrea USB sound pod). One basic question: if I'd like to try WSR scripting, will I need this download from Microsoft?

The item description seems to indicate that it is necessary for WSR scripting, but it also explicitly mentions Vista and mentions nothing about Windows 7. Is scripting support baked into Windows 7 WSR, or will this Microsoft add-on provide that ability?

Edit: And yes, I know that with DNS Preferred and KnowBrainer I have perfectly good speech recognition tools. I just want to familiarize myself with WSR for my personal gee whiz file : )

Where is this? I am trying to get DNS to open Microsoft Word for me.

Hi, I've been away from all things speech recognition for a few years now and have a need again, so I thought I'd check out WSR in Windows 7.

After doing the 20 odd minutes of training, I was quite disappointed in the dictation accuracy, being used to DNS which I used to use before. I did some more training, a touch better but simply unusable for dictation, at least a word wrong every sentence, usually many.

So I reinstalled my old version of DNS (Pro 9.5), did its basic training with Kennedy's speech (I'd lost my previous training files) and it was fantastic. Totally acceptable, like I remember from before.

Despite the investment in DNS Pro, I'm still wanting to use WSR if I can get it to equal the accuracy of DNS. I just like that it's built in, the XML and caters for JScript instead of VBScript, and doesn't feel out-of-date (can't justify upgrade to DNS Pro 10 ATM).

Is it just a matter of training WSR more, or differently, or is it just not at the level of DNS yet?

How to "select entire line" in WSR?

I seem to remember that the command I used in dragon was "select entire line." When I look in the common commands "what can I say" help file, it does not offer a command for this. I can "select paragraph", but I cannot figure out how to select a line. Thanks!

Microsoft Word 2010 includes numerous new feature which make it more interactive and easier to use, and makes document editing more easier than ever before. But I was astonished to find out that it has missed out a very important feature; Speech Recognition.

You can still add it through the windows application
