Sometimes when I'm dictating the microphone turns and stays green and is unresponsive. Sometimes when dictating microphone will turn green and hesitate for 20 seconds or so.

There are many potential sources of the problem:

1. Excessive background sounds. Even seemingly minor noises like fans, street sounds, and breathing sounds.

2. Improper microphone placement. Perhaps the microphone is too close to your mouth and nose.

3. Your sound system (microphone + sound card + cables) is insufficient or failing. It may be adding interference into the signal.

The problem may also be with Dragon. I've seen more sonic issues like the ones you're describing since upgrading to DPI 15.61.

It probably goes without saying but have you upgraded to DPI 15.61? Having said that, we occasionally experience this freeze but not very often. In our case, we believe our 7-year-old+ computer, which is now struggling with File Explorer, simply needs Windows 10 reinstalled. We are putting this off until M-Tech finishes our new i9 monster

There may be another reason. Do these freezes mostly occur in browsers like Chrome or Edge? And do you happen to have the Dragon Web extension installed in those browsers?

No I did not upgrade to 15.61.

In addition, sometimes when the Dragon freezes up and is showing green, I get a message that Dragon is having trouble with a third-party program. cLOSE the program and try again.

Are there any benefits of upgrading to 15.61? I've heard of problems but not benefits.

There definitely are benefits to version 15.61. I have found it to be much more stable than 15.3 and it works well for me with Office 2019 (the local version). In addition, the scripting engine is much improved, to the point that I can use the SendKeys instruction with great reliability and speed. In fact, I have taken all references to SendSystemKeys out of my Advanced Scripting commands.

The only problem I have found so far is that after I run the Acoustic Optimizer, I get an error and have to restart Dragon. I haven't been able to figure that one out.

Nuance doesn't release incremental upgrades unless they consider them to be absolutely critical. They are expensive to create. Nuance's #1 reason for the new DPI 15.61 download w/Installation/User Guide (including details on fixing 3 dozen sandtraps) was to fix the freezing issue.
