Here's a weird one that I can't for the life of me figure out...

Running DMPE 4.2 on a Dell Precision 7740 laptop (Xeon processor E2276M 2.8 GHz, 128 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD) using Windows 10 1909.  Using a SpeechMike Air (SMP4000) with the ACC4100 AirBridge.  SMP4000 is using 4.65 firmware, ACC4100 1.10, and using PDCC v4.3.430.11.

When using DMPE, if I hit my programmed button to open the dictation box ("i") and hit the record button, there is a 2-3 second delay before the red recording light comes on and DMPE will start listening for anything.  The DMPE light in the task tray doesn't light up for 2-3 seconds either (so not a delay with the SpeechMike).  If I do this again after about 30-45 seconds of not using the microphone, the delay reappears.

The interesting part...

If I'm running Pandora in the background playing music, this NEVER happens.  The recording light comes on instantenously and DMPE will listen instantly.  Close Pandora, delay reoccurs.  Open Pandora, it goes away.  This has persisted over several weeks through several reboots and shutdowns.

I'm guessing there is some process Windows 10 is using that is causing a service related to microphones or audio to go into standby, and the Pandora music streaming audio is causing it to remain open.

Curious if anyone has any thoughts and a suggestion on how to make this work instantly without Pandora being streaming music.

You should check for updates on the application again, part of the application is not working and having problems because you are using the old version and it is faulty.

SamuelAlexander is correct in that you need Ver. 4.3. It is an important complimentary update but is not a patch. You will need to download and install the full copy, which you will find in your email with other complimentary updates.

Having said that, we experienced the same issue with Dictation Box in DMPE 4.3 so while this update is important, it probably won't fix your problem. Our original solution was to use Notepad with a couple of KnowBrainer commands but you might consider DragonCapture which will give you Direct Dictation. You'll find trials in our signature tag.
