Hi everyone,

Can anyone recommend a dual pane file manager works well with Knowbrainer 2017? My current favorite is XYPlorer, doesn't seem to be very compatible. Any suggestions?

Michael

I use XY too. Once long ago I asked the developer for more voice support, and he said it wasn't going to happen. I had a hard time even finding a manager that I liked, let alone one that worked well with voice.

I use DOpus but not by voice recognition. However, there are a large number of Hotkeys and they are configurable. This would be the way to go I think.

Interesting, thanks guys!

I also have a Directory Opus licence still, so will see which is best:

File Explorer, with optimal voice control (but limited and single-pane), or Directory Opus / XYplorer, with hotkeys linked to voice commands.

I use xplorer2 lite (free version). I like it because I can have so many folders that are frequently used pinned and easily accessible. But it is not great for speech support, without using the tags from Voice Computer as well.
I frequently sin by using the mouse for moving around the cursor, and then an auto mouse click program (MouseTool) for clicking (or speech for clicking).

I have drastically modified the source code to Explorer++ to make it virtually completely voice-controllable. In the process I also fixed lots of bugs, implemented a number of feature requests/enhancements and thoroughly tested it. I have used this version extensively for almost 3 years - it's quite stable, almost every feature and function can be accessed by voice, all the text edit fields are completely Select-&-Say (it has a mode which allows you to rename a file or folder by voice using "Correct That" as needed) and, best of all, it's completely free and open source. If anyone is interested let me know and I will provide links to both the source and just the executable.

Hi Edgar, I'm interested in your Explorer++ - I've wanted a multiple-tab, voice-accessible file manager for a long time. Could you please post a link or VStudio/git/zip? Thank you

I have not gotten around to writing a Readme.txt file for my customized version. Anyone familiar with Windows File Explorer should be comfortable with the basic structure of the application. Pretty much everything is available via menu entries all of which have keyboard shortcuts and accelerators so can be easily driven vocally.

dual pane file manager works well with Knowbrainer File manager apps are among the most important apps on your device. With them, you can browse your files, find your downloads, manage your storage space, move things around, and a lot more. Not everyone is too keen on file organization because it can be pretty boring, but it still must be occasionally done. Here are the best file explorer apps, file browser apps, and file manager apps for Android. https://technofizi.net/hotstar-premium-cookies/

Hi Edgar, thank you for posting the executable and the solution files. It is really nice of you to check in over there and try to help out and answer questions. I will try out the executable and compare it to XYplorer for ease of programming with SendKeys. (I should really invest more time in writing scripts to SendKeys to these applications...). And I wish I knew C++ (I went straight from C to C#, skipping the C++ generation). But there is just not enough time to learn all that I want to learn... :-)

I zipped up two text files: E++Commands.txt & E++Lists.txt and attached them to this post. E++Commands.txt contains the HTML code for all the scripts; they will look something like this:
    <Command name="Search" group="Edgar Explorer++" enabled="true">

Sub Main
SendKeys "^e"
End Sub

    </Command>

The E++Lists.txt file contains two parts, the top is just a list of all commands and the bottom is all of the list used (I did not bother to specify all the integers in the integer lists).

Don't hesitate to ask me questions here…

Thanks Edgar, the scripts and keystrokes are much appreciated. I tried out the app, but on my (highres) monitors the text is so small that it causes eye strain. I couldn't find any way to increase the size of the fonts and lines and such - maybe the app is not DPIAware (I'm guessing). One thing that you and app helped me to do was to investigate the ability of XYPlorer to use keybindings to do everything. It seems pretty competent, but I could see that many dozens of scripts would be required to send all the required keystrokes. I will have a look at your list to judge the size of a working set of commands.

The application is completely font sensitive. There are three places where different fonts (family, size & style) are used: all menus inherit from the default Windows menu font (on Windows 10 I think it requires a third-party application to change the default menu font, I use "Advanced System Font Changer" from WinTools). If you are using the Display Panel at the bottom, it's font may be controlled from the “Tools” menu item "Change Display Panel Details…" The resulting dialog has a button "Choose Display Panel Font…" Everything else uses a single font which may be changed via the “Tools” menu item "Options…"; the resulting dialog has numerous tabs, you want the "View" tab which has a button: "Default Application Font…" (it's the last control - excluding OK/Cancel, toward the right).

As for "lines and such" there are very few of them that are not directly controlled by the OS and the application has no control over how they are drawn. Remember, I did not create this application from scratch and it has a very large user base so I needed to keep the "look and feel" somewhat familiar.

Hi Edgar, Excellent! You were right, the font settings were all there. I apologize for not seeing them - I should have dug deeper instead of stopping when I did not see a high-level Font menu item. Now I can see what's on the screen and can load and try out your scripts for driving it by voice.

The app crashes whenever I right-click on a tab and choose New Tab. The current tab is Desktop (same behavior if the current tab is a Dropbox folder). I rearranged the choice and order of columns to (Modified, Size, and Name), but that probably shouldn't matter.

First, I want to apologize to Michael for hijacking this thread! When it was just offering a potential solution to the original problem (though not dual-pane) it was marginally reasonable. Let's move this discussion here:

Mine is not even a semi-official version of Explorer++. There are other customized versions as well (but none is drastically modified as mine, as far as I can tell). Some of the other modifiers also hang out on the official Explorer++ forum.

I'm just using my Dropbox as a method of sharing the source and executable. Every time I post a new version there I bumped the minor revision number. For internal version control I use a local solution - at every successful compile a script runs which copies the entire solution to another drive using time and date to build appropriate folders ([drive]:\[ProgramName]\[Year_Month_Date]\[Hour-Minute-Second]). Every once in a while I go back and weed out most of the old folders.
