Has anyone else encountered this problem?

 

My experience dictating into Microsoft Edge has always been kind of spotty. Select-and-Say would work on some websites and not others. I have always been able to dictate on Knowbrainer.com with full Select-and-Say capability. Lately, however, the browser has stopped accepting dictation on any website, including Knowbrainer.com.

 

I checked the to make sure the Dragon extension (for Chrome) is installed and enabled, and it is. I also looked into the nsuser.ini file to make sure Global Dictation is set to 1 for msedge. It is. Specifically, here is what I found there:

 

[msedge|98.0\Compatibility Module Status]

Global Dictation=1

[msedge|99.0\Compatibility Module Status]

Global Dictation=1

 

I have tried closing and reopening Microsoft Edge, and I have tried rebooting the computer. Nothing seems to help. Does anyone have any ideas?

Did you try creating a new user profile? This takes only a couple of minutes and there's a good chance that it will reenable dictation in MS Edge again.

 

Another option would be to switch to Firefox which most likely won't suffer this issue.

Make sure you have all the entries below, not just the entries for Microsoft Edge that you have listed above. Although the chrome extension generally works in Microsoft Edge you might want to download the Microsoft Edge extension available for the latest releases of Dragon.

 

Also note regarding it sometimes working and sometimes not working the select & say dictation will not work on a new tab page neither wall commands like "show links" because of security issues.You should change your start-up settings so that chrome or edge does not start with the new tab page.

I have both created a new profile and made the suggested changes to the nsuser.ini file. I now have Select-and-Say functionality here. Thanks, guys.


I conducted a quick test on every webpage I regularly dictate into. Select-and-Say is available on most of them, but it isn't available consistently on the webpage I use most often: Yahoo Mail. Nothing new there. But that's why I invested in Speech Productivity...

Actually, you're right, Lunis. I didn't need to create a new profile. Once I made the suggested changes to the nuser.ini file, my old worked just fine.
