l asked for advice on what exactly to buy just before covid. Then money got tight and I didn't end up buying anything. I have the money now and I'm looking for updated advice. Lunis recommended this https://shop.knowbrainer.com/store/pc/configurePrd.asp?idproduct=716 at the time. I want to use it solely for fiction writing, in Word. I won't be using speech rec for anything but this. I have a massive amount of custom vocabulary to teach it. I want to have it on two computers and I can't remember does that work? And I want the digital version, unless that means I won't be able to reinstall it on a new computer in the future if I have to replace it (I've recently had a laptop die without warning and I'm paranoid now). My question is, is this still the best version to get and is there any other add ons I should get for my needs? (excluding headset I'll get that locally). And sorry for the weirdly worded post. Thanks in advance! |

Our recommendation remains the same. You can install/activate DPI 15.61 4 times. Dragon has only been available as a digital download for a long time. Our downloads never expire or require any information. In our opinion, this is the only edition of Dragon to get for your workflow.
PS: Don't forget to budget for a Microphone. a good microphone can cost as little as $35. ------------------------- Change "No" to "Know" w/KnowBrainer 2020 |

I want to use it solely for fiction writing, in Word. I won't be using speech rec for anything but this. Do you want to revise your writing by voice, or are you OK polishing via keyboard and/or mouse? Revising text is a different skill than dictating. I have a massive amount of custom vocabulary to teach it. In this case, don't even consider getting the Home Edition! The Home Edition is very limited when it comes to custom vocabulary. Even if you add words to the vocabulary, you'll lose them in the event you need to create a new profile. So stick with the Professional Edition. What are examples of words or phrases you want to add? With the Professional Edition, you can import them from a plain text file, one line per word or phrase. Once you have the file, it only takes Dragon seconds to "teach" itself your custom words and phrases. |

Alan, Just a tiny bit of additional information: Beginning with Home Edition Ver. 15, Nuance increased the price $50 and COMPLETELY removed end user access to the Dragon vocabulary. Nuance traded off by adding the Text-to-Speech reader
Home Edition 15 no longer allows end users to edit, add or delete words. We wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft drops the Home Edition (appetizer) because the Windows 11 Voice Access utility will be nearly equivalent to Home Edition accuracy and features (currently in Beta).
We used Voice Access to dictate this answer which, after editing and correcting, only took about 5 times longer than DPI 15 ------------------------- Change "No" to "Know" w/KnowBrainer 2020 |
