I can't use the "wake up" command because that's already taken by another device in my immediate area. When I want the Dragon microphone to wake up from sleep, I use the "listen to me" command, but I have to repeat myself 2 to 5 times. Is there a fix, or is this just the way it is? Using DPI 15.61 and Windows 10 |

If you have use of your hands, use a hotkey to toggle the microphone on and off. This is a far more reliable method than voice commands.

No use of hands. I should also mention that I'm using a tableMike 3-in-1. |

Are there environmental sounds when you're using Dragon? For example, are you listening to music, or can you hear people talking in other rooms, or traffic noises? If yes, is there a way to minimize the background noise? Environmental sounds can play havoc with Dragon's ability to pick up what one is saying.
Another strategy is to move your microphone into a slightly different position, preferably a little closer to your mouth. If these "low-tech" solutions don't help, there is a way -- it's a rather complex method -- to rename the command. I don't seem to have the method recorded anywhere in my notes. I'm sure somebody else will chime in soon... If you go this route, have you given thought to what you'd like the command to be called? It should be easy to say, easy to remember, and easy for Dragon to "hear." |

You should already have a complementary KnowBrainer 2020 license but we recommend additionally obtaining SpeechStart which includes the ability to turn the Dragon microphone on, from the completely off state, by saying Microphone On. Putting Dragon in the Asleep state is not particularly safe and can be somewhat sluggish or difficult to awaken. We recommend using Dragon to turn your microphone off, by saying microphone off and using SpeechStart+ to turn the microphone back on ------------------------- Change "No" to "Know" w/KnowBrainer 2020 |

Hi! If the built-in alternative "listen to me" (instead of "wake up") doesn't work realiably for you (for whatever reason there might be), you could try adding your own command sentence ("please listen now" or "start listening" or anything else working better for you). For this, you can edit the file system.dvc (the corresponding WakeUp command is at the very end of the file). This file is located at %programdata%\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking15\Data\enx\dvcu\general.

... but be sure to back it up first! Also I'm not sure whether the system.dvc is editable in DPI.

Mav's advice, as supplemented by Stephan, is correct, as far as it goes, but I don't think you can edit the system.dvc file while Dragon is running. Since you don't have any use of your hands, that's a problem, and you likely will need someone's assistance to edit that file. You also will need to be careful in editing the file. I'm guessing you've never edited a dvc file before. You must run whatever text editor you use in adminstrative mode. Open the file from the location Mav gives, and search for "wake up". Add a new line after "wake up" with whatever phrase you want to use in quotation marks. Then save the file and start Dragon. |
